March 15 through April 15, 2017 – Hawk Watch
Event to record information and track migratory hawk numbers and species. Come help out by volunteering, or just come to see all the hawks that pass through the Refuge.

June 3, 2017 – Family Fun Day
Event to usher in summer for the family. Crafts, nature activities, journaling, kayaking, archery, animal tracks, animal molds, and more.

June 19 through 25, 2017 – Pollinator Week
Week of activities focused on pollinators. Monarch Migration game, Be a Butterfly game, bat presentations, butterfly walks, and information on how to attract birds, butterflies, and hummingbirds.

July 16, 2017 – Outdoor Day
Day of photography, journaling, and more. Get the kids outside for animal games, nature activities, and a scavenger hunt.

August 13, 2017 – Junior Ranger Day
Day with a ranger. Spend the day with a ranger and learn about the plants and animals of the Rio Grande Valley.  Activities include nature hikes, owl pellet study, water testing, plant pot-making, and more.

September 23, 2017 – National Public Lands Day
Volunteer at your local public land, Santa Ana NWR, and help to maintain a butterfly garden, pick up trash from a scenic auto tour trail, or help maintain the trails. Wear old clothes and shoes. Trash bags and hand tools provided.

October 9 through 14, 2017 – National Wildlife Refuge Week
Celebrate National Wildlife Refuges by participating in special events all week. Activities include nature walks, games, scavenger hunt, nature journaling, and more.

October 14, 2017 – Rio Reforestation
Plant native seedlings to create habitat for wildlife. 1,000 volunteers are needed. Event is from 8:00 a.m. to noon. Food and drinks provided. Wear old clothes and shoes. Please bring a shovel.

December 16, 2017 – Santa Ana NWR Christmas Bird Count
Participate in a Refuge bird count to document species and provide information on bird migration and populations.
