Grant for Salineño Bird Refuge

September 18, 2015. The Texas Parks and Wildlife Foundation has granted $5,000 to the Friends of the Wildlife Corridor to fund construction of a walking path for the Salineño Bird Refuge, which is currently owned by the Valley Land Fund and maintained in partnership with the US Fish and Wildlife Service. This project was selected for funding by the Trogan Men, a winning team in TPWD’s 2015 Great Texas Birding Classic. The Salineño Bird Refuge is a natural area of riparian forest adjacent to the Rio Grande River, a perfect area for bird habitat.  Open to the public November through March, the refuge attracts birds that may be unseen anywhere else in the Rio Grande Valley.

Friends of the Wildlife Corridor is a non-profit organization that supports the mission of the Santa Ana and Lower Rio Grande Valley National Wildlife Refuges.
